We see Cristiano’s home in Madeira on a stormy night. There are buckets on the ground to catch the rain leaking through the roof. Cristiano wakes up scared because of the storm. He’s sharing a bed with his brother and tries to wake him up. His dad comes in drinking alcohol while his mum is doing the finances. His dad sits down on an armchair drinking and looking worn out/ done out/ exhausted/ shattered/ wrecked, and Cristiano watches him from his room. In the morning we see Cristiano’s mum making breakfast for the family and leaves to do her job as a cleaner. The kids all tuck in and the two brothers fight over the food. Cristiano sees that it’s match day, grabs his boots and heads out the door. His dad is outside still drinking. Cristiano runs to training and on the way he flies past some local businesses, nearly making a waitress drop her plates! He hops over a wall while an orange falls off a fruit vendor’s cart. Cristiano uses his football skills to kick it back to him though!

Cristiano continues on his way but comes across a guy whose cart is stuck. Cristiano gives him a hand to free it and then continues on to the football grounds. During this football match, Cristiano dribbles past everyone and scores lots of goals. At the end of the game, we can see Cristiano hi-five his teammate and little does he know that what appears to be a football scout has been watching him. Cristiano walks home and watches his mum clean through a window and sees people drop litter on the ground. He waits for his mum outside the shop while watching another boy and his mum buy a pair of football boots. Cristiano doesn’t ask for them because he knows his family can’t afford them, but his mum spots what he was looking at. On the way home, they bump into the football scout, who hands them his card. He represents Sporting Lisbon, the most decorated football team in Portugal. In the next scene, Cristiano is being seen off by his mum. It seems that the boat will take him to Lisbon.

His mum hands him a box and they’re both emotional. The whole family are there to wave goodbye to him. Cristiano opens the box up on the boat and sees that it’s his old pair of boots but they’ve been stitched up/patched up by his mum. In the changing room, his teammates are taking the piss out of him because of his old boots. Cristiano starts beating one of them up before the coach comes in to break it up. It seems that coach has punished him for lashing out and makes him empty the rubbish. His teammates start chucking coins at him, mocking him because he’s poor. He chases after them but suddenly faints. Next we see his mum at home dropping a vase. As she picks up the pieces, the phone rings. She puts the phone to her ear and immediately drops it because she’s probably heard what happened.
